Baton Rouge, Grosse Tete & Opelousas

The road was chartered in 1853 and was operating its Civil War length by January 1861. Once the Union Navy had captured New Orleans and Baton Rouge, the railroad had no reason to operate; it discontinued operations in May 1862, moved all its rolling stock to the west end of the line, and went into hibernation.
