On the 28th ult. the people of Victoria
had a grand jollification in the shape of a barbacue, to celebrate the
completion of the railroad connecting their town with Lavaca
{San Antonio & Mexican Gulf RR}. Many
visitors from the latter place were present, including merchants,
mariners, editors and militia men. The dinner, the Advocate says, "will
be discussed with becoming grace and suavity." The ball in the evening
was numerously attended, over 300 persons participating, and the best
feeling prevailing. |
