Air Line Railroad |
The State Gazette says: |
The Air Line railroad company, through
their able President, Col. John B. Banks, have succeeded in securing
provisions to sustain the present negro force of eighty efficient hands for a year from the present date.
This will enable the company to grade twelve and a half miles of the
road by the 1st of January 1862, and the recent extension of the
charter by the legislature, giving the Company until 30th December
1863, to complete the first section of twenty-five miles, can leave no doubt in
the minds of the friends of this great enterprise, of its
success. The contractors, Messrs. Catterton & Williams, are
pushing forward the work, under the terms of their contract, towards the
first station this side of Brenham, and is, we understand, of a
character excelling any "earthwork" yet made in the state. |
