From the New Orleans True Delta

March 16, 1861

We take the annexed paragraphs from the Monroe (La.) Intelligencer of Wednesday:
The cars coming from Vicksburg were thrown off from the track on Friday evening last, about five miles east of Monroe, by running over a horse. No especial harm was done to the train, but it was detained there all night in getting righted.
On Wednesday, the 6th inst., as the cars were passing west over the Vicksburg, Shreveport & Texas railroad, the engineer was fired at by a man by the name of Greer, but the shot struck the engine without doing any damage. Officers are after him, and ample measures will be taken to prevent a repetition of the outrage.
