The Roads |
The rains on Friday and Saturday north of
this were very heavy. The floods caused a suspension of regular trips on
the Memphis & Charleston, New Orleans, Jackson
{New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern} and Mississippi Central
and Mobile & Ohio railroads. We are happy to learn from the chief
engineer of the Mobile & Ohio railroad, Col. Fleming, this morning, that
his road is in working order, trains having passed through yesterday,
and no doubt of their going through today. The waters of the
Chickasawhay are very high at Enterprise, the flood cutting off
communication between the old and new town. A few miles above there
yesterday the water was up to the rails. |
