The locomotive of the Eastern Texas
railroad has commenced running, says the Sabine Pass Times of the 10th
inst.; we heard the whistle this morning. We understand the iron is laid
several miles. |
There are now five hundred
hands employed on the road, owned mostly by the stockholders; fifty
miles of the road are ready for the iron, and rapid progress is making
in track laying. |
The Memphis, El Paso & San
Patricio railroad company {Memphis, El Paso &
Pacific RR}, call for proposals for the grading, in five mile
sections, of the road from the terminus of Ives's contract, in Red River
county, west to the Paris depot grounds -- a distance of twenty miles. |
