| Railroad from Blakely to Pensacola |
| The Mobile Advertiser and
Register has the following: |
| A charter has been obtained
for the construction of a railroad from Blakely to a point thirty-five
miles distant on the Florida boundary, at Hall's Bridge, across the
Perdido river. From that point there is already railroad connection with
Pensacola, via a road six miles long {Pensacola &
Mobile RR and Manufacturing Company} to a point of junction with
the Montgomery and Pensacola Road {Alabama &
Florida (of Florida) RR}. Thus by the construction of thirty-five
miles of road through a country singularly favorable to the work, Mobile
Bay will be brought within three or four hours' ride of Pensacola Bay
the distance from water to water by this route being sixty-five miles. |
| {There is no evidence
that this unnamed road had construction started and, even if started,
finding 35 miles of iron would have been impossible.} |
