Keelan Pensioned
Speaking if the hero of Strawberry Plains, who lost one hand in resisting the would-be bridge-burners, the Knoxville Register says:
A resolution was adopted by the stockholders of the East Tennessee & Virginia Railroad, pensioning Keelan, the brave defender of the bridge at Strawberry Plains, in substance as follows: $25 per month for one year from the date of his wounds, and thereafter $15 per month for the term of his life. If he recovers, and is able to resume his post as watchman of the bridge, he is to retain his situation, at his former salary, in addition to his pension. This action on the part of the road is wise, as well as liberal. Employes that display such courage and faithfulness as Keelan should be properly appreciated. We will probably have a fuller report of the proceedings of this meeting for our next issue.
