New and Short Route to Memphis |
On Thursday of last week, the
track was completed on the Memphis & Clarksville Railroad
{Memphis, Clarksville & Louisville RR}; and
a new route will thus be opened from Nashville to Memphis, New Orleans,
St. Louis, &c., via Edgefield & Kentucky Railroad. This route is fifty
miles shorter than any now open. We understand regular through trains
will shortly be put on, making the trip to Memphis several hours quicker
than by any of the routes now in use. Owing to the shorter distance,
this should become the main thoroughfare between the principal cities of
Tennessee, and to the Southwest and West generally. It will be a great
advantage t Nashville in opening up a region hitherto inaccessible to
our business men. |
