Camp Wharton, Dec. 28, 1863 |
|
***** Early on the 23d inst.,
the enemy landed a couple of regiments at Indianola, and occupied the
city. They were not resisted, our forces having evacuated the town some
time previous. ***** We shall not be surprised to hear that Lavaca will
soon be in their hands, but, even there, they will find the ting has
cost more than it is worth. The {San Antonio &}
Mexican Gulf Railroad from Lavaca to Victoria has been rendered
worthless to an enemy, and they will then have to transport all their
stores in wagons, should they try to advance further. ***** |
