Proceedings of Council
 
Council Chamber, February 8th, 1862
   City Council met this day at 11 1/2 o'clock, a. m.
   Present -- The Mayor, and Aldermen Banks, Chafee, Cobia, Edgerton, Gilliland, Hume, Kirkwood, Lucas, Robinson, Rodgers, Riggs, Steinmeyer and Williams -- 14 members.
   The Mayor stated that he had convened Council for the purpose of hearing the report of the Committee appointed to confer with the bond holders of the Charleston & Savannah Railroad.
   On motion of Alderman Edgerton, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting was postponed.
   Alderman Edgerton, from the Special Committee appointed to confer with the bond holders of the Charleston & Savannah Railroad, submitted the report of the Committee, which was received as information.
   On motion, Council proceeded by ballot to nominate a ticket for President and Directors of the Charleston & Savannah Railroad Company, and the following was the result:
For President:

Hon. Charles Macbeth, Mayor  
Geo. W. Williams, Esq. Jno. H. Steinmeyer, Esq.
Henry Gourdin, Esq. B. W. Bradley, Esq.
M. C. Mordecai, Esq. C. T. Mitchell, Esq.
W. C. Bee, Esq. Jas. H. Taylor, Esq.
Theo. D. Wagner, Esq. R. L. Singletary, Esq.
Henry L. Buist, Esq.  
   On motion of Alderman Gilliland, the Mayor was authorized and instructed to cast the vote of the city for the above mentioned gentlemen, at the election to be held on Tuesday next, 11th inst., for President and Directors of the Charleston & Savannah Railroad Company.
   The application of the Commissioners of the Cheraw & Coalfields Railroad was referred to the Committee on Railroads, to report at the next meeting of the Council.
   On motion, Council adjourned.
