Sam Tate, President of the
Memphis & Charleston Railroad, has forwarded the following communication
to Gov. Petus of Mississippi: |

To the Governor of Mississippi, Jackson,
Miss. |
Dear Sir, |
I am authorized by the Board
of Directors of this Company to tender to your State the use of this
Road for the transportation of Troops and munitions of war for the
defence of the Southern States, free of charge. Should it become
necessary, and you require our services, please give me notice in
advance, that I may make preparations to perform the service. |
