| Colonel, |
| On receipt of orders from Head
Quarters "to have all the machinery & rolling stock on the
Memphis & Charleston Rail road as far east as Stephenson moved
west of Corinth," I immediately instructed Capt W J Ross Genl
Supt of the road to stop all trains going east of Corinth, & to
use all possible dispatch to forward the machinery & rolling stock
as ordered. |
| On the next day, the General
ordered that the passenger train to continue regular trips & I
relayed my order to conform to the Generals wish. |
| I send you herewith a letter
handed me by Col. Sam Tate President of the Road containing his &
the superintendents report touching the loss of Locomotives, Cars
& Machinery at Huntsville & other points on the road. I have
not read the report, but hope it will relieve those officers from the
summary disregard of orders. |
| Very Respectfully |
| Your obt Svt |
