| Colonel, |
| I have the honor to inform
you, That owing to the pressing demand for forage in the Military
District, I have been compelled to give the enclosed guarantee to the
Sav{anna}h Albany & Gulf Rail Road in order to ensure the prompt
delivery of Forage. Finding that a large quantity of fodder has been
damaged by being brought on open cars, I wrote the President of the
road in relation to the matter and enclose copies of my letter and his
reply. Being compelled to condemn a large quantity of Fodder, as unfit
for issue. I would respectfully ask, whether the course that I have
pursued meets your approbation, I would at the same time state that
the fodder condemned brings ??ly the cost price, as my contracts are
greatly under the market price at the present time. |
