| Sir, |
| Enclosed I send an extract from a letter
recently received from Lt. Col. L. P. Grant of the Provisional Engrs
Corps, in regard to the propriety of making a loan on the security
offered, to the Geo. &. Ala. R. R. Co. to enable it to complete
the grading of that portion of the Rome and Blue Mountain R. R. lying
between Rome, Ga., and the Ala. State Line. I heartily concur in the
views expressed by Col. Grant, and earnestly recommend that he be
authorized to make the above loan to the Ga. & Ala. R. R. Co.
(taking as security a second mortgage deemed satisfactory for the
reasons set forth) on terms, conditions, and with limitations, similar
to those imposed upon the Ala. & Tenn. River R. R. Co. for the
loan recently made to it by the same office. |
