| Sir, |
| I am informed by letter from Col. C. F. M.
Garnett and by telegram from Maj. Minor Meriwether that Maj Screven
President of Savannah, Albany & Gulf RR {Atlantic
& Gulf RR} has declined to undertake the construction of
the Railroad designed to connect the Georgia & Florida Roads.
Under the circumstances and with a view to saving R. R. iron from
Florida & to securing transportation for Government stores, I
respectfully recommend that Maj. Minor Meriwether, Corps Engr PACS be
instructed to make arrangements to construct with the least possible
delay the connecting road from Lawton to Live Oak. |
