Sir, |
The Secretary of War directs that you
proceed to Garland (the terminus of the Alabama & Florida
(of Alabama) Rail Road
(67 miles south of Montgomery)) by the
three o'clock train today, and on your arrival, enter upon the duty of
carrying out the provisions of paragraph III. Special Orders No. 16,
Adjutant & Inspector Generals office of April 8th 1861, a copy of which
is herewith enclosed. |
It is exceedingly necessary that the men
be forwarded to Pensacola with the utmost dispatch and you will hasten
them off by Companies as rapidly as possible, sending away first those
which have been longest at Garland. You will inform the Commanders of
Companies that the baggage will be properly cared for, and will follow
on as soon as the men have all be transported. |
