President Davis
Richmond, Va.

A party that has returned from six miles beyond Ringgold saw nothing of the enemy. He has torn up the railroad track for four miles beyond Ringgold {on the Western & Atlantic RR} and twelve miles of the track between Dalton and Cleveland {on the East Tennessee & Georgia RR}. Our [road] is getting to be in good order and condition.
