Railroad Accident |
The down train on the Mobile & Ohio
railroad yesterday, arrived late in consequence of the cars having run
off the track near Coonewah, by which they were detained about four
hours. A brakeman, whose name we could not learn, in the midst of the
crash leaped from his car and attempted to climb the bank but failed,
and the car overturning, fell upon him, crushing him so severely that
little hope is entertained of his recovery. He lay for full half an hour
under the wreck, nor could he be extricated until some of the timbers
had been sawed away. Some box cars were p??ed at Coonewah in which the
passengers were accommodated until passage cars were obtained at Okolona
and West Point The road is encumbered with a mass of wreck, which must
cause considerable detention to the up train. |
