Our latest intelligence from below
represents everything s quiet there. A few days since, a force of about
fifty cavalry, made a raid through Nansemond and crossed the Blackwater
at South Quay, meeting only a few pickets at that point to resist them.
They went up Murfree's Depot, the present terminus of the Seaboard
{& Roanoke} railroad, and burned all the
buildings, including a lot of salt and cotton, owned by private
individuals and three bales of cotton cloth for the Agent of Nansemond
