Galveston, Oct. 16 |
Yesterday afternoon our city
was visited by one of the severest gales that has occurred for some
year. The wind was from the northwest, and such was the force of the
wind that it drove the water into the city as far as Market Street, and
at one time the depth of the water on some portions of the Strand was
over a foot. Among the casualties caused by this gale, was the washing
out of the railroad track on the island at different points, for some
two miles. ***** |
