Special dispatch to the Daily Telegraph
Galveston, Feb. 22

Quite a serious accident happened to the G. H. & H. {Galveston, Houston & Henderson} R. R. train this morning at 10 o'clock. About 12 o'clock Mr. Quigg, the conductor of the train that started from here at 9 A. M., and several passengers returned to the city on a hand car and reported that the train had run off the track about 7 miles above the bridge. The accident was caused by cattle on the track.
The locomotive and tender were thrown off the track with five platform cars and entirely smashed up. The passenger cars are alright. None of the passengers were hurt. One of the brakesmen on the locomotive is severely hurt and not expected to live.
The conductor referred to the place of accident with a locomotive at 1 1/2 P. M., to bring the passenger cars back to town. The track will probably be repaired by tomorrow.
