NP, GN 8/20A/1861

From the Galveston News

August 20, 1861

It is reported here that the mails sent from this place for New Orleans, via Liberty, during the last ten days or two weeks, have been left at Liberty {on the Texas & New Orleans RR}, the railroad refusing to take them.
We trust there is some mistake in this. This road has received enough aid from the State, for it, although without a contract to carry the mails, to relax a little towards the many valuable interests at stake in the connection of Galveston with New Orleans.
