From the Clarksville, Tenn. Jeffersonian

May 22, 1861

The body of a negro man was found under the railroad bridge {Memphis, Clarksville & Louisville RR}, over Yellow Creek, on Friday morning last with the head and one leg severed from the body. It is thought that he must have been on the bridge, either drunk or a sleep when the night train passed. He was the property of Mr. Lewis and a very valuable slave.
