Dated Shops   Sept 10 1863
Addressed to Jno D Whitford

I prefer to transfer at Camp Mangum or at Cary there is no frog at Camp Mangum side track cant be used until fixed my engines must go to Raleigh {4 miles} to turn it will require very great care & caution to prevent accident I will send to Raleigh in morning forty cars. I think it advisable to let mail train run to Goldsboro unless the demand for train requires its stoppage.
