Gen. Gilmer requires a train to keep ??able column of one
thousand men {about 20 cars} on line of
Charleston & S. R. R. {Charleston &
Savannah RR} This takes all available force of Central {(of
Georgia)} & A&G {Atlantic &
Gulf} R. Roads. I learn there are cars of RR now in enemy's
hands on side line near Atlanta. Can we not be supplied with enough to
enable us to meet any emergency? Gen. Gilmer thinks it of utmost
importance.
