To
The Hon. Senate and House of Representatives of the Confederate States of America
Richmond Va.

Your petitioners, the Mail Agents on the South Side, Virginia & Tennessee, East Tenn. & Virginia and the Orange & Alexandria Rail Roads would beg leave to represent, that the present Pay allowed them by the Post Office Department is altogether inadequate for their support, at the present exorbitant prices of every article of consumption (being only $800 pr annum). We would therefore respectfully ask that you would at the earliest practicable moment pass an act increasing our pay to such seems as may be sufficient for the exigencies of the times.
Very truly and Respectfully
