Capt. James Dinwiddie

Dear Sir,
I have sent today, to the Depot {Virginia & Tennessee RR}, one box car containing five hundred and four combs, directed to you.
In your last note you ask me to increase the delivery of combs. I am sorry that I am not able to furnish them to you as rapidly as I expected I would be able to do. Having only myself and another hand it is with great difficulty I can get out 500 in one month and for the present my handle turner (Mr Valton) is in the army, and I expect some difficulty in getting handles for the next lot of combs. I still hope however he will be back in a short time.
You will find this a better lot of combs than the last you received.
Yours &c
E R Lusten
