Quartermaster General's Department
Richmond, March 21st 1863

Mr. Talcott   {Superintendent, Richmond & Danville RR}

Sir,
   The forage is so low in Richmond that it is absolutely necessary to the support of the animals of General Lee's Army that the forage from Burkesville should be brought to Richmond as soon as possible. I must request you to give it preference over all other freight, and have it brought here at once. Please let me know if you cannot in some 4000 bushels {about 14 cars -- an entire train} today.
A. C. Myers, Q. M. Genl.
