| I am directed by the Secretary of War to ask in your
favor a remittance of $15,000 of Confederate Bonds to be appropriated as
follows. Mr A M Gentry President of the Texas & New Orleans RR Co has
applied for the amount to aid in the completion of that road, so far as
to enable him to run cars through from Houston to the town of Orange, on
the Sabine River. He states that this can be accomplished in some 15
days, and he proposes to reimburse the Government by the transportation
of freight &c. You will on receipt of the bonds, deliver them to the
company taking security that the sum will be applied as contemplated to
finish the road & in time refunded by transportation on Government
account. |
