Hon L. P. Walker
Secretary of War

Sir,
On the 9th May inst I stated to you that it would promote the public interest to erect a store-house on lands owned by the Alabama & Florida {(of Alabama)} Railroad at the Depot in Montgomery free use of the land having been granted, and asked your approval of such a building. Your consent was given, a contract entered into on approved plan and specifications, for three thousand dollars -- the building is now well advanced.
In this connection I beg leave to state that the deficiency of cars on the Alabama & Florida railroad is a serious impediment to the rapid transportation of public supplies to Pensacola. The President of the road should put upon it at once additional cars.
A. C. Myers
A. Q. Master General
