| I return respectfully to the War
Department the papers referring to me in the case of Capt M Morfit
AQM now an applicant for the position of Chief of Rail Road
Transportation, held until recently by the late Col. Ashe. |
| Capt Morfit is an officer of
intelligence and energy and since the death of Col Ashe has
discharged with zeal and to my entire satisfaction the duties of the
position referred to. I do not know, therefore, of a more suitable
person than himself to receive the appointment for which he is
recommended. |
