| Asks in regard to receiving $5 notes in old
issue in payt of debt due C. S. by Piedmont RR Co. Letter of treasurer
of RR Co on subject. |

Facts in case appear to be that Piedmont RR was indebted to CS for
forage sold to them & on the last of Issue offered to pay the amount in
$5 bills of old issue. The officer to whom payt was offered, declined to
receive funds tendered, believing he could not do so without subjecting
himself to loss. It is decided that the officer was in error in refusing
to receive funds. I ask that in justice to him the receiver in Danville
be instructed to receive money at face value, if officer be instructed
