Lt Col F. W. Sims Q. M.
Rail Road Bureau

Dear Sir,
As some of our Blacksmiths have recently left our Road and left us with only one single whitesmith, we are anxious to have Thomas J. Wells private Confederate Guards, Capt F. M. Wright 9th Va Regt Barton's Brigade Pickets Division detailed to work in our shops as a Blacksmith. Mr Wells, altho' a member of the Co has never been with it, having been detailed to work with J. W. Wells of this City, as per enclosed copy of General order, and as J. W. Wells contract for work for the Govt has been completed, and we are without Blacksmiths to carry on our work, we are anxious to secure the services of Thos J. Wells and I may add that we have on our Road at this time no more men than what the law actually allows.
I am Col
Very Respectfully
Your obt Sevt
C. O. Sanford
