In this thirtieth day of August one thousand eight
hundred and sixty two personally appeared before me a Notary Public in
and for the county aforesaid Wm F Preston, Special Messenger sent to
Richmond Va by Maj J T Winnemore Quar Mr at Augusta Georgia in charge
of certain quantities of public stores consigned to Maj J B McClelland
and Capt R. P. Waller, that the car was entered by some person or
persons unknown to him and one of the Boxes Marked Maj J B McClelland
QM broken open & Ten pairs of shoes stolen therefrom, this occurred on
the North Carolina Rail Road between Charlotte and Raleigh and that he
used all due diligence in the proper care of said stores.
