Baldwyn Miss 3d June 1862

General Beauregard
Commanding Army of the Miss.

General,
I have the honor to bring to your notice the gallant conduct of Mr E L. Elliott, Clerk in my department, who under a great risk of his life & in the presence of the enemy, detached three cars from the burning train at Boonville {on the Mobile & Ohio RR} & thereby saved two car loads of ammunition & one of Enfield rifles, besides the explosion would probably have killed several sick soldiers who were unable to get out of the way. Whilst engaged in this noble work he was repeatedly ordered by the enemy to desist, they having retired to a safe distance from the exploding shells in the cars on fire.
I have the honor
to be, General
Your Most Obt. Servt.
Frederick Ingate
