Head Quarters 6th Regt. T. V. I.
Virginia Point

{Recipient not indicated}

Sir,
   In accordance with your request I detailed seven mounted men from Capt Owen's Company under his charge to pass over the Bridge {Galveston, Houston & Henderson RR} & report the result.
   It answers the purpose very well but would facilitate the Passage of mounted troops if the space between the stringers of the R. R. Track was planked for some fifty or sixty paces at each end and another plank say six inches in width on the side railing placed at the bottom of the railway to prevent the horses from getting their feet off the planking. The planking between the stringers referred to should serve to prevent the horses from starting at something over which they are inclined to do. It required fifty minutes for the detachment of move from this point to the foot of Tramout Street at a Trot.
I have the honor to be
Very Respectfully Your
Obt Svt.
