NA, ENG 9/23/1863

Engineer Bureau
Sept. 23, 1863

Col. C. F. M. Garnett
Commissioner for Removal of R. R. Iron
Richmond

Colonel,
I am informed by a prominent citizen of Florida that if the iron could be removed from (22) twenty-two miles of the Tallahassee & St. Marks R. R. {the Tallahassee RR} at the same time as from the (140) one hundred & forty miles of the Florida Road, it would do much to modify & allay the sectional feeling which has been excited in that state by the proposed removal of Rail road Iron. The suggestion is submitted to your consideration.
Yours Very Respectfully
A. L. Rives
Lt. Col. & Actg Chf. Bur.
