NA, ENG 4/7A/1863

Engineer Bureau
Richmond, April 7th 1863

Endorsement on letter of Lewis E. Harvie dated March 31st '63, stating that the condition of the road renders it indispensable that 5 miles of iron should be procured -- calls on the Govt for aid.
"Respy retd to Hon Secy of War. The condition of the Richmond & DRRd {Richmond & Danville RR} as represented seems to demand that a portion of the iron taken from other roads (if it be decided to take it) should be applied to its wants. The removal of the rail from the {Richmond &} York River Road is now in progress, & it is hoped some will soon be obtained from the Norfolk & Petersburg road. In exchange for good iron the Govt should have an amount of worn iron equivalent in value."
