| Yours of 2d inst, in relation to
duplication of bridges in the W&A R. R. {Western
& Atlantic RR} from Atlanta to
Chattanooga has been duly recd. |
| Messr Maxwell & Co have already
contracted with Lt Col Minor Meriwether for the construction of the
Tombigbee River bridge {on the Alabama &
Mississippi Rivers RR} and have been duplicating bridges of East Tenn
& Va RR & it is possible that the work now on their hands may
fully occupy their attention. Capt. L. P. Grant of the Engrs has
already I believe duplicated a portion of the bridges, and I wrote to
him today to make arrangements to duplicate as promptly as possible
such bridges as may be considered most important to the public
service. |
| You will please communicate with him on
the subject & cooperate with him in obtaining the services of
Messr Maxwell & Co. or others responsible parties. |
