Dear Sir,
   Your letter of the 25th Octo. to Hon. Thos H. Watts & Wade S. Keys, enclosing resolution of the Board of Directors of the Geo. & Ala. R. Rd. Co. and seeking information regarding supply of iron for the construction of the Rail Road from Rome, Geo. to Blue Mountain, Ala. has been finally referred to this Bureau. Col. J F. Gilmer, its chief, desires me to inform you that your letter has been referred, for his consideration and action to Capt. L. P. Grant of the Provl. Engineer Corps who represents the Govt. and on whom devolves the duty of causing to be prepared suitable contracts. The Hon. G. W. Randolph late Sec. of War endorsed his desire for you to be informed that the proposed link is considered highly important and that the Govt. will exert its utmost powers in procuring iron. It is believed that these views are endorsed by the present Hon. Sec. of War. 
   For full and satisfactory information on these and all other heads {?} relating to the proposed road, you are respectfully referred to Capt. L. P. Grant whose address is Atlanta, Geo.
