Colonel,
I am instructed by Major General Magruder to represent to you that the cars have run off the track between Liberty & Beaumont {Texas & New Orleans RR} containing commissary supplies and horses. This is produced by the very bad condition of the road.
In view of this the Major General Comdg has ordered (50) fifty of first negroes which came with Capt Anderews hands to be turned over to Col. Gentry President of the road to repair it as high as Liberty from Beaumont.
The immediate wants of the Engr Dept may render it necessary to direct these. The General refers the matter to you for information.
The necessity for repairing the road is very great. The General wishes to know if you knew anything of the sixty negroes ordered from Galveston and suggests that they might be stopped in time to answer the above purpose.
I am, Col. Very Respty
