Sir,
In reply to your letter of the 30th ult. I am directed by the Maj. Genl. Comdg to say, that the Sec of War has telegraphed that the iron for the Bridge can be had, provided it does not interfere with the casting of guns. I am unable to say whether he alludes to the works at Carterville, Geo, or to the Tredegar Works at Richmond, when speaking of casting guns &c but a telegram has been sent asking which of the two is referred to. If you will forward to these Head Quarters the address of the individual empowered to dispose of the castings referred to, the Comdg Genl will negotiate for them as soon as practicable.
The Quarter Master at Savannah telegraphs that he will furnish transportation for Bridge timber on your order.
