Your communication of the 29th with enclosed documents has
been received and Gen Lee directs me to say that he has no additions or
alterations to make in your present instructions but that if you have
any to suggest he will be glad if you will communicate them. |

I have to day telegraphed you for information as to the
number of negroes employed on the A&M RR {Alabama
& Mississippi Rivers RR} and telegraph line to Rome Ga that need
shoes. The regulations permit shoes to be sold in such circumstances but
not issued. |
