| The Board of Directors of the Western N C
RR Co met in Newton 12th March 1861 and was called to order by A M
Powell Prest. Present R C Pearson W W Avery A M Erwin G F Davidson Jonas
Kline R A Caldwell A Henderson. |
| Mr Avery offered the following resolution
which was carried: |
| That the President & Treasurer certify
according to the provisions of the Charter to the Board of Internal
Improvements the whole amount of the estimated coast of Grading and Road
from Morganton to the Western portal of the Swannanoa tunnel and that
they likewise certify that one third of said estimated cash has been
subscribed for in Stock by solvent individuals and counties & that the
five per cent thereon has been paid. And that they also certify that the
Amendments to our Charter proposed by an Act of the General Assembly
passed at the late Session have been accepted by the Stockholders of
this Company. |
| Ordered by the Board that as soon as the
estimated cash of the 2nd Section from the Western part of the Swannanoa
Tunnel to the French Broad River may be accertained that Books of
Subscription be opened for the one third the amount that the Chief
Engineer proceed forthwith to locate and estimate the Cost of said
Sections. |
| Resolved That as soon as the State of
North Carolina makes its Subscription that a call of 20 pr ct be made
from Morganton to the Swannanoa Tunnel. ***** |
